Thesis Title: Universal and Sustainable Design in Current Industrial Design Practice

Current Thesis Abstract: In recent years the concern for sustainability issues has broadened, shifting in scale from grassroots awareness to global consciousness. The where to from here aspects of this shift have and will continue to affect design research as design methods adjust to accommodate this emerging paradigm.

This research aims; to explore how practicing designers currently view and apply sustainability issues to design problems; to understand better how sustainability issues influence early stage design processes and to identify if sustainability issues can contribute to a designer’s ability to innovate.

It is expected this research will provide a theoretical framework or tool for generating innovative and sustainable product/service systems.
