Thesis Title: "What is the salience of stakeholders in organisational change initiatives being undertaken in public organisations?"


Research Objectives:

  • To understand how the stakeholder management is impacted by the salience of stakeholders of public agencies undertaking organisational change processes
  • To identify the stakeholders groups potentially impacting on these change processes
  • To classify stakeholder groups and understand their salience within alternative change models
  • To understand the interactions between the agencies and stakeholders using network governance theory
  • To test the Mitchell et al (1997) Stakeholder Identification and Salience Model under alternative change models

Expected outcomes:
  • Creation of new knowledge of about the interactions between stakeholders and agencies in organisational change processes in public agencies
  • Information on organisation/stakeholder interactions for use in strategy development
  • Diffusion of practical knowledge about stakeholder management
  • Increased understanding of stakeholder relationships and management in reform processes

Expected impact:

The research will generate a new paradigm, processes and training resources for Australian public organisations implementing stakeholder centred reform initiatives.
