Profile

Nicola Durrant is an Doctor in the Faculty of Law and an active climate law researcher with QUT’s Institute for Sustainable Resources. Nicola is an environmental lawyer with particular expertise in the role of law in responding to climate change. Nicola has published several papers and presented numerous seminars addressing the legal issues in regulating greenhouse gas emissions, attributing liability for climate related harms, and developing an effective carbon trading scheme.

Nicola completed an integrated environmental law degree from Griffith University in 2001 (LLB/BSc(Env)(Hons)). Upon graduation she joined a top tier firm in Sydney where she practised as a solicitor in the area of Environmental and Planning law, specialising in major projects, from 2002 to 2005. In 2005, Nicola commenced a full-time Doctor of Philosophy with QUT’s Faculty of Law/Institute for Sustainable Resources, which she completed in 2008. Her thesis is titled ‘The Role of Law in Responding to Climate Change: Emerging Regulatory, Liability and Market Approaches’.
