Begley says Brisbane scientists have begun using mobile phones to eavesdrop on birds, insects and other wildlife outside of Brisbane. Begley says QUT researchers say the Smart Phone project is set to revolutionise the way climate change is tracked in future. Reporter says the mobile phone network will be spread across the Samford Valley north west of Brisbane. Gage outlines how the research should be able to determine the numbers of bird, frog and insect species in the area, and there is a tremendous amount they can learn from acoustic research. Professor Peter Grace outlines how they have a solar panel, a battery, and a sensor attached to a tree, each gathering pieces of information from the area.
