This research area emphasises the integration of the built, climatic and human components that make up living environments and the integrated management of assets, infrastructure and urban facilities.
It bridges the traditional technical and social dimensions in developmental growth. It provides a theoretical underpinning and innovative framework for design production and operational processes with the contemporary environment, with a particular focus on renewable resources in urban and infrastructure environments and in a subtropical context.
Related centres, such as the Centre for Subtropical Design and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute and the CRCs in Construction Innovation and in Asset Management, both located at QUT, are important components and links.
As well as local application through Commonwealth, State and local government, industry associations, major corporate research partners and the development industry in Australia, the Institute is already securing extensive opportunities for the application of this expertise into the fast-growing subtropical urban environments of Asia.
