Thesis Abstract

This research will focus on Brisbane suburbs in a review of subtropical architectural design and apply them to new contemporary urban design models with potential benefits to Brisbane's public and private land policies.

Land-use models from other times and cultures in other countries will be analysed and evaluated. In addition, new urban design strategies could be explored using indigenous perception, which could trace urban features such as architectural meanings, place theory/maintenance and environment knowledge heritage. These strategies should consider issues such as public and private spaces, effective transportation, human comfort, sustainability and affordability.

Social, cultural, economical and morphological aspects of the models will be tested under existing legal and economic mechanisms in order to provide a workable urban design basis.

As an outcome, views of the spatial models may be tested and presented using cinematic and/or digital modelling techniques.
