Mission
"The ability now … to sustain the future."
Overview
QUT is one of the largest universities in Australia and is itself located in a subtropical, rapidly growing region. With its research partners from both the public and private sectors, it is developing “living laboratories” – real projects as test beds for research and teaching and learning. These are addressing the short and long term, practical issues surrounding sustainability and renewability with particular emphasis on tropical and subtropical environments.
From that base, it has embarked on similar projects and initiatives through the Asia-Pacific region.
ISR has developed over two years and is now active in areas of particular research interest:
- Resource Management
- Sustainable Environments
- The Human Dimensions of Change
An essential point of difference in the QUT approach is that it is principally transdisciplinary, practical and technology based – not simply relying on the linking up of existing disciplines but rather integrating multidisciplinary research teams and undertaking research that is leading edge, innovative but, most importantly, solving real problems.
